The social and economic progress of man should be guided by an all-encompassing idea. Secularism and Tawheed are two of the most comprehensive beliefs that a person can adopt in order to progress in life. In this article, we investigate the question of which belief is the correct one and which one would lead man to true progress in this life by providing him with the right framework to direct his actions.

When capitalism is the dominant way of life in a country, secularism emerges as the dominant worldview. Let's examine secularism as a model for society and evaluate how good of an option it is for man to espouse and follow as their leading thought to resolving all of their worldly problems.

The rise of secularism can be traced back to a conflict that arose between the people and the church. This conflict was the impetus for the development of this reactionary idea which emanated from the survival instinct of the 17th century European people. Its primary objective is to exclude religious practice from everyday life. On the basis of this concept, man devises his own rules for how to live his life.

Anyone who takes the time to reflect on these few words will come to the conclusion that secularism is not an intellectual thought since it did not originate from thinking and, as a result, would not be consistent with the nature (i.e., instincts, and organic needs) of humans. When it comes to handling the affairs of the people on all socioeconomic levels, it is obvious that there would be disparities and inconsistencies in the system.

Due to its flawed foundation, capitalism assigns the wrong standard of measurement to actions: benefits. Those who agree to adhere to this standard will be unable to satisfy their instincts and organic needs in the way that they were meant to. This will, as a consequence, bring about misery, which is the state that the world is in at the present time.

Islam is an ideology that was revealed in the 7th century (B.C) by the Creator to Muhammad (s.a.w). The fundamental idea of Islam dictates that there is a unique Creator; Allah (s.w.t) who is responsible for the creation of everything, including mankind, life, and the entire universe. He (s.w.t) chose the Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.) to be the final messenger of His revelation, which is the Qur'an. He (s.w.t) sent it to Him (s.a.w) so that it could serve as a guide for all of humanity. The conviction that there is a Creator is an intellectual one because it is founded on rational evidences, as was covered in one of our previous articles.

Since the Islamic foundational thought (Aqeedah) is established on thinking and rational evidences, it can be asserted that the Islamic doctrine (Tawheed) is the only correct and comprehensive idea that man has to espouse and follow should they want experience true progress and real happiness because the base idea of Islam provides humanity with the correct methods and mechanisms to satisfy their instinctual and organic needs, thus addresses man’s innate nature in the manner they were intended to.

In Islam, the concepts of halal and haram serve as the yardstick for determining our actions. In the event that this idea were put into practice over society via the implementation of the Islamic ideology, the human race would be able to live in peace if those limits were adhered to, and society as a whole would progress successful. The 1300 years of Islamic civilization provide proof of the genuine advancements that were previously made in the world.

Let me leave you with one more thought before I wrap up this article. As a conclusion of the arguments presented above, it is clear that the only valid ideological idea is one that is based on rational thought, and that would be the idea of Tawheed. It is the right foundation for all of man's actions, which are established on Halaal and Haraam. The Islamic Aqeedah defines for humanity the correct mechanisms in satisfying our instincts and biological needs, resulting in tranquility and real happiness.
