Money is an important part of democratic systems. So, in democracies, having more money always leads to more power. The need for money forces political parties to work with big businesses, which in turn have a direct effect on the legislation that are made.
So, is it still surprising that political parties would rather help a small but powerful elite and their special interests than try to appeal to the people?
Gilens and Page did a study in the US to look at what happened with policy in 1779. They found that
"Business elites and organized groups representing business interests have significant influence over US government policy, while mass-based interest groups and ordinary citizens have little to no influence."
So, this study showed that 70% of all people don't actually have any say in politics.
The democratic system is just made for people who have a lot of money. In doing this, it uses the phrase "the will of the people" as a cover.
When the Panama Papers were leaked in 2016, it showed how close these people were to each other. In the shadow world of capitalism, the West, Putin, China's President Xi, Iran, Korea, Arab princes, Israelis, Emirate sheikhs, and Pakistani industrialists are all related. Even though they are different, they all use the same method to avoid paying taxes: moving money to accounts in other countries.
In the UK alone, it has come out that six members of the House of Lords, three former Conservative Party Prime Ministers, and dozens of supporters of different political parties have offshore accounts.
📌 Islamic Point of View
For Muslims, Allah alone is the ultimate authority. None of the people or any elite may make decisions about the law; all legislation must come from the Qur'an and Sunnah. All the votes in the world and all the money in the world won't undo what has been decreed. As far as Islam is concerned, our Creator is the one who determines what is in our best interest.
